Appointment of Interim Senior Vice President for Research and Economic Development

August 8, 2018

Members of the Rutgers Community:

I am pleased to inform you that I have appointed S. David Kimball, Ph.D. as Interim Senior Vice President for Research and Economic Development, effective immediately. Dr. Kimball, who joined Rutgers in 2011 and has been serving as vice president of innovation and research commercialization, fills the vacancy created by Chris Molloy’s appointment as interim chancellor of Rutgers–New Brunswick.

As interim SVP, Dr. Kimball will oversee strategic planning for Rutgers’ annual research expenditures of more than $700 million, and management of the institutional offices that support our research and economic development activities.

David Kimball came to Rutgers after nearly three decades in the pharmaceutical industry, where he led drug discovery and development efforts at several companies.  Here at Rutgers he led efforts to rebuild and strengthen the university’s technology transfer capabilities following the integration of the former UMDNJ into Rutgers. In addition, Dr. Kimball has been responsible for creation of a software and copyright licensing group and the formation of public-private relationships that have helped fund Rutgers startup companies. He also built Rutgers University Biomedical Research Innovation Cores (RUBRIC), which bridges the gap between basic and interdisciplinary preclinical research for Rutgers faculty.

Please join me in welcoming David Kimball to this position, which is so critical to our success as a public research university.

Sincerely,

Robert Barchi
